Dr Dave Smith became the UK’s National Technology Adviser in September 2023. He advises the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology and the Cabinet on strengthening the UK’s tech capabilities, championing science and technology across government, and connecting industry leaders with policy makers.

A seasoned technologist, Dave brings decades of experience from roles including Director of Central Technology at Rolls-Royce and Managing Director of a British cyber-security and networking firm. He has led innovative organisations, developed globally successful products, and earned The Queen’s Award for Innovation.

Passionate about R&D’s role in driving UK tech ambitions, Dave holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Warwick.
